Our clinical leaders are selected from Colonial Family Practice and other FCP partners.

Meet Our Leaders

Thomas Watson, Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Thomas Watson is President & CEO of Family Care Partners, a primary care group practice platform headquartered in Fort Mill, SC (just outside of Charlotte). Family Care Partners was formed in December 2015 with the investor support of Varsity Healthcare Partners, a private equity firm that specializes in providing capital and growing multi-site provider based companies.

Prior to Family Care Partners Mr. Watson was one of the top 100 executives at Aetna, and created a new insurance division for the company serving the individual market. He has worked as an Operating Partner with Varsity, and held two other CEO roles which were backed by private equity firms. One of those companies was AccessMD Urgent Care, backed by Ridgemont Equity Partners, which he grew to 28 sites. Prior to running AccessMD Thomas was the CEO for a large third party administration (TPA) company called Avizent, backed by KRG Capital. Avizent provided workers compensation and P&C insurance claims administration to self-insured employers. Tom successfully sold both businesses.

Before Mr. Watson entered the private equity space he worked for UnitedHealth Group, where he held business segment COO and CFO roles. One of the businesses Tom helped to launch at United was a banking and financial services business now known as Optum Financial Services, the largest consumer directed healthcare company in the U.S. Earlier in his career Tom worked for CIGNA, and as a participant and then graduate of their highly regarded management development program, held key roles in multiple divisions and businesses, including disability management, behavioral, PBM, and dental, as well as core managed care services. He earned a BSBA, in Accounting from The Ohio State University, and an MBA from the University of Baltimore. He also holds a non-practicing CPA license.

Gary Katz, MD, Chief Medical Officer (CMO)

Dr. Katz joined Family Care Partners as a member of the board of directors in 2016. After spending a period of time on the board, he assumed the role of Chief Medical Officer in February, 2017. Dr. Katz is a residency trained Emergency Medicine physician, having attended medical school in Toledo and residency in Akron, Ohio. Over the past 20 years, he practiced clinically in various community and academic settings.

After being in practice a few years, Gary returned to school to earn his Masters in Business Administration from Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University. From that experience, he developed an expertise in patient and physician satisfaction, documentation billing and compliance, as well as clinical operations. He was previously VP Clinical Quality at Premier Physician Services and was most recently a Section Medical Officer for Schumacher Clinical Partners overseeing operations at 40 hospital ER’s in 5 states before joining Family Care Partners as the CMO.

Dr. Katz maintains his clinical activities as part time faculty at The Ohio State University and has received recognition as a Top Doctor by his peers in both Columbus and Dayton, Ohio. He was recognized as physician leader of the year in 2015 by the American College of Emergency Physicians – Ohio Chapter, Finally, Gary gives back to the community by serving in the Ohio National Guard.

Paul Miller, Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Ed Motherway, Chief Operating Officer (COO)

 Ed joined Family Care Partners as the Chief Operating Officer in June, 2016 from Aetna’s Consumer healthcare division.  Ed has more than 20 years’ experience in leading large service organizations, delivering post-acquisition integration, leveraging third party solutions and providing advisory services to Fortune 500 organizations.  Prior to Aetna, he was a senior leader in Deloitte’s strategy advisory group and an executive with Cognizant Technologies.  While with Cognizant, he led their Wealth Management BPO practice. Ed held executive roles with both Fidelity Investments and ING, primarily leading operations and service organizations for their respective pension businesses.  He began his career as an artillery officer in the United States Marine Corps.

Ed earned a B.A in Political Science from the University of Massachusetts and an M.B.A. from the University of Connecticut.

Ed McFadden, Chief Information Officer (CIO)

Ed McFadden, serves as the Chief Information Officer for Family Care Partners. Ed has over 30 years of experience with Information Technology, Revenue Cycle and multi-site healthcare operations. His past experience includes serving as Vice President of Information Technology for Fresenius Medical Care and Renal Care Group, Inc Nashville Tennessee.   

Ed has built and led Information Technology and Revenue Cycle organizations and projects with up to 200 people and budgets in excess of $30 million. He has defined and executed operational and information systems initiatives supporting finance, accounting, human resources / payroll, patient intake, revenue cycle, lab and pharmacy operations.   He analyzed Healthcare Value-based reimbursement legislation and executed a 1 year, cross functional project to successfully transition all clinical, financial and reimbursement functions for a 2000+ site organization which completely revamped the reimbursement for over 110,000 patients.  He defined and managed project governance processes to execute 20 key projects (from 180) in less than 6 months.  

Ed has successfully led acquisition integration efforts in growing healthcare organizations. He successfully planned and integrated the systems of 3 major dialysis companies with 100, 450 and 200 sites respectively. 

Ed earned his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics, from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC and is currently working towards a Masters of Business Administration from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.

Kevin Rogus, Vice President of Business Development

Kevin Rogus is the Vice President of Corporate Development for Family Care Partners a primary care group practice platform headquartered in Fort Mill, SC (just outside of Charlotte).  Family Care Partners was formed in December 2015 with the investor support of Varsity Healthcare Partners, a private equity firm that specializes in providing capital and growing multi-site provider based companies.  In his role at Family care Partners, Mr. Rogus is responsible for all mergers and acquisition initiatives, as well as fostering platform growth opportunities. Prior to Family Care Partners, Mr. Rogus was the Chief Financial Officer of Windy Hill Spirits, a Nashville based spirits company which successfully sold in 2016. Prior to Windy Hill, Mr. Rogus was a Vice President at Morgan Stanley in the Investment Banking Division. In this capacity he advised Fortune 500 clients on a range of corporate finance initiatives including mergers & acquisitions and capital raising.  Mr. Rogus began his career At BlackRock Asset Management where he was an analyst in the portfolio analytics group. Mr. Rogus holds a BA from Harvard University and an MBA from Columbia University.

Kelli McGregor, Director of Marketing

Kelli McGregor serves as Director of Marketing, and oversees the brand and multi-media marketing strategies of Family Care Partners and all partnered medical offices. Prior to her position with Family Care Partners, Mrs. McGregor Served as the Marketing Director for Colonial Healthcare where she launched numerous marketing campaigns focused on increasing patient awareness of Colonial and its many services. During her marketing career with the national pathology billing company, PSA, she co-authored “Critical Leadership and Management Skills for Pathology Practice” in the Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, hired and instructed marketing representatives for pathology practices nationwide, and coordinated national events and marketing campaigns promoting the company and its services. Outside the healthcare industry, Mrs. McGregor is experienced with running B2B marketing programs and implementing CRM systems for companies working in the industrial markets. She earned her Bachelors of Science in Business Management and her MBA from Francis Marion University in South Carolina.

Renee Anderson, Director of Physician Recruitment

Renee L. Anderson is Director of Physician Recruitment and is responsible for recruiting physicians and advanced practice providers. Ms. Anderson started her healthcare career over 20 years ago while working for McLeod Health, a healthcare system located in Florence, South Carolina. During her tenure at McLeod, she served in several different positions to include Senior Healthcare Recruiter and Recruiting Manager and was responsible for recruiting physicians, advance practice providers, healthcare executives, allied health professionals, and physician office staff.

She earned a degree in business and is a Certified Recruiter through Lean Human Capital.

Brian Porter, Director of Physician Recruitment

Brian T. Porter is Director of Physician Recruitment and is responsible for recruiting physicians and advanced practice providers.  Mr. Porter is a 20-year veteran of the United States Air Force and started his healthcare recruiting there in 2002.  Since then Mr. Porter has been involved in recruiting in various professional markets to include automotive, facility maintenance, healthcare, and corporate healthcare.  Most recently Mr. Porter held the position of Director of Recruiting for Healthstat, Inc., a Charlotte, NC based health and wellness organization. Brian has earned degrees in both Human Resource Management and Criminal Justice
